Kamigamo Shrine, a World Heritage Site, is visited by many tourists from overseas. Walking east from the large torii gate in front of the shrine, you’ll see a traditional streetscape lined with streams. Nestled amidst these streets is “Kyoto Cuisine Sakurai.”
Established in 1923, Sakurai is celebrating its 100th anniversary with a focus on natural ingredients, offering delicate Kyoto cuisine that allows you to enjoy the changing seasons with both your eyes and your palate. With a beautiful garden stretching out before you, this Japanese-style space is also used as a wedding reception venue, welcoming important guests.
Kyoto Cuisine Sakurai’s greatest focus is on its dashi, a combination of ultra-thinly shaved bonito flakes and Rishiri kelp. Third-generation owner Noriyuki Sakurai says the essence of Kyoto cuisine is to enhance the flavor of the ingredients with a flavor-packed dashi and minimal salt.
Kyoto Cuisine Sakurai’s “Dashi Making Experience” allows you to learn about dashi and actually make your own dashi.
